One of the oldest clubs in League, the Sydney Roosters formed in 1908 as the Eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club. The club has more internationals than any other club with names such as Dally Messenger, Harry ‘Jersey’ Flegg, Dave Brown, Wally O'Connell, Arthur Beestson, Russell Fairfax and Brad Fittler among their roster. In 2010 the Roosters came from wooden spooners to Grand Finalists. Brian Smith and Braith Anasta led the Roosters, including young guns Todd Carney and Mitchell Pearce, to the summit of the NRL before being beaten by the St George Illawarra Dragons.
In 2011 a similar squad will again assemble to try to go one better under the guidance of head coach Brian Smith.
