In June 1874 the Red and White received it's birthright as the South Melbourne Football Club and a foundation member of the AFL. After winning 3 premierships under the South Melbourne banner, the club relocated to Sydney to become the Swans. They were the first AFL team to be based outside of Victoria.
After 14 seasons in Sydney and 72 seasons since their last premiership, the Swans beat the West Coast Eagles by four points to win the 2005 Premiership. In 2011 they will have a new look coach in John Longmire and will rely on emerging young guns Daniel Hannebury and Kieren Jack to lead them into another finals campaign.
